The Finnish National Championships in synchronized figure skating are held this weekend. I (of course) have an all-event ticket and I am enjoying the show.

The most anticipated competition is the Senior level for obvious reasons. The two best teams will get a ticket to Italy in April, to participate in the World Championships. The tragedy is there are three extremely good teams in Finland. Each of them has won the World Championships at least once, but each year one of these teams must stay at home.

Last year, ‘our girls’ the Team Unique won both the Nationals and the World Championships in Boston. The short program competition tonight was waaaay more exciting than the Olympic bronze game in ice hockey (yay the Finnish Flash anyway!). Too bad – our Team Unique is now on the 3rd position and a bronze medal in these games is very sour. Tomorrow in the free program competition we will shout and applaud and encourage the team from the bottom of our hearts. We want to see them in Italy this spring!!
